Flying Site Update
As there are no cows in the field, we are removing the power supply for the time being but leaving the fence in place to stop anyone driving on the strip.  If you lower the fence to fly then the last person leaving the field MUST replace it, to keep the strip in good condition.

Flying Site Update
The new electric fence unit is in place, with a much greater output than the old one so beware!  A new single wire fence will soon be installed and it is still vital that the fence is erected after each flying session and the battery reconnected.
The committee have decided not to purchase a solar powered charger for a variety of reasons.  John Salmon has kindly agreed to be the club’s battery manager so there should be no more problems with the fence not working.
The council have been asked to commence mowing the strip as soon as possible.

Flying Site Problem
The cows in the field have now had calves, and these are straying onto the runway through the electric fence where their mothers then follow them.  With the appalling weather we have had so far this year the field is completely waterlogged and the runway is potted with hoof marks.  I have now spoken with the farmer who also has a problem with possible contamination of his cows (TB).  He has informed me they are to be tested Monday week and, if all is OK, they will be sold at the earliest opportunity and removed from the field.  In the mean time, Graham Tester has kindly volunteered to purchase and erect (this weekend) an electric fence that should keep the cows at bay (according to the farmer).  This is a wire fence rather then the Horse one (White tape strip) that we currently have.  Once this has been completed and we get a couple of weeks of relatively dry weather we will get a roller on to the flying site again to make is serviceable.  I will circulate another email informing you all when this has been accomplished.
I am sorry for this inconvenience but please bear me and the committee who are trying to resume normal service as fast as we can.
Best Regards,  Rob Creasey (chairman)

Electric Fence
I need to remind you all that if the electric fence is not put back in place (it does need to be connected to the battery) then the cows will churn the strip into a pulp. It has been left down on two occasions now and it is not in the best of conditions as a result.
Graham has volunteered to roll the strip, but the rain has made this impossible until the water levels subside. So please ensure the fence is put back up if you are the last person to leave the field.
Happy flying, Rob Creasey (Chairman)

Safety Netting
Anyone visiting the field will now see the safety netting installed in front of the "picnic" start benches.  I believe this is an extremely important addition to the safety of all members when using the club flying site.  I would like to thank Less Kemp for all the efforts he put into sourcing and making this safety device, and Simon Manser for helping to erect it.

Report on Horam Swapmeet
Just some wee words to update you on our SwapMeet this year.  In view of the difficult circumstances this year, all four of us who organise the SwapMeet were really pleased with the result, a clear profit of £400+ on the day.

Very sociable meet with lots of boxes and bits disappearing out the door, all this with the aroma of bacon sandwiches provided by the Ringmer Bodgers Burger Bar (Graham Tester).  As well as the new faces we welcomed on the day, it was nice to see the regular faces that have supported us over the years and we now look forward to the event as a social gathering as well.

Me? Well I did come away with 3 kits to build, one of which is a single-channel rudder-only from Australia, which shows what sort of anorak I am.  My thanks again to the team:  Chris Pilbeam, Robert Richardson, Graham Tester and me.  Let's hope the next one will be even better. It will be our 10th year!

Request for help from Terry
Can we ask if any of the club members have a Mills .75 available (or any parts worn or otherwise) that they would part with.  This is to support a Vic Smeed TomBoy project that one of our members is competing in this year.  Me being the engine guru, I'm trying to sort out a good runner for him.

35Mhz Interference
Further tests were carried out at the site on Friday afternoon, again we had positive locks on channels 83 and 84, but what is more concerning these were around the pits area, At the moment we are still unable to say what is causing this, therefore could all 35Mhz users please take extra care with your safety procedures and ensure that your models are properly restrained at all times.
We will be seeking further advice/assistance from the BMFA’s technical team.

Starting Tables
The new starting tables have now been installed at the field, please note they have been installed to be used primarily for safe starting of your models, please feel free to use these for socialising with other members but please vacate them if a member wishes to start his model.

Proposed Changes to Starting Procedures
The club safety officer has advised that we as a club should adopt having a
separate area away from the pits for the start-up of all models; this system is used
by the majority of model flying clubs this will be discussed at the next committee
meeting and will be adopted and implemented if agreed upon. This would also act
as a queueing system for flying slots, by placing your prepared model onto one of
the supplied starting tables.
